Novemberfest celebrates the German legacy of the Dubuque community with a program of German-inspired music, and speakers from area families and organizations of historically German background. The inspiring beauty of the former St. Mary’s church, with its own rich German past, is the perfect backdrop for the occasion.
The event begins half an hour before the concert with organ preludes by Dr. Charles Barland of the University of Dubuque. Then the Dubuque Chorale, Cadenza, and Children’s Choir will perform music by Schütz, Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms and others. Speakers and multimedia presentations will round out the program.
After the concert on Saturday, enjoy treats provided by the Chorale. Sunday, Hy-Vee will have German dinners for $7. Also for sale both days will be wine by Park Farm Winery and beer by Jubeck New World Brewing. And you can polka to the sounds of Dubuque’s own Americana Band! Besides the treats and music, there will be a drawing to win a gift basket filled with German-inspired items.
General admission is $10. You may purchase tickets at the link below, or at the door. (Online purchases include a 50-cent convenience fee per ticket and are provided through SeatYourself.biz.)
The Chorale wishes to thank the following organizations for their financial support of Novemberfest.
The performance includes a video showcasing Dubuque’s German heritage, featuring interviews with members of German families who have played prominent roles in our community’s history. The video is the work of Dubuque Chorale member Mary Bryant. Thank you Mary!
