For our fall concert the Chorale, Cadenza, and Children’s choir celebrate music from Dubuque’s history, inspired by the five flags that have flown over our city.
The program includes songs from each of the five countries whose flags have flown over the city of Dubuque that also date from the historical period that corresponds to each flag. The music brings to life a history that many may know only in the visual image of the flags.
The program opens with a ceremony by Jody Durnin of the Meskwaki Nation, honoring the area’s First Nations who inhabited the land centuries before the Europeans arrived. After that France is represented in two separate periods, Spain, Great Britain, and America.
Along with period pieces, the Chorale, Cadenza, and the Children’s choir will perform American folk songs, and works composed by regional composers.
