Dubuque Chorale

The Dubuque Chorale, Cadenza, and Children’s Choir are joined by the renowned Minneapolis-based bluegrass band Monroe Crossing for a performance of bluegrass and country-themed music. The groups will perform individually and together.

Program

The centerpiece of the concert is a performance of Carol Barnett’s The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass, composed especially for Monroe Crossing. It combines the folk sounds of bluegrass with the voices of the Chorale to produce an exhilarating blend of the classical Mass, poetry, and traditional bluegrass instrumentation. Monroe Crossing premiered the work in 2007 and has since performed it across the country.

Educational talks

In conjunction with the main performance events, Carol Barnett, a Dubuque native, will lecture at area colleges. On Thursday November 2 at 6:30 pm, she and local musician Denny Garcia will give a talk about bluegrass music at the Multicultural Family Center, 1157 Central Ave. in Dubuque.
